Emos Electrical: Your Go-To Team for LED Lighting Installation, Halogen Upgrades and Energy-Saving Conversions.

Trusted LED Lighting Expert on the Gold Coast

If your property is still running halogen downlights or old fluoro tubes, you’re paying more every quarter and replacing bulbs more often than you need to. Emos Electrical handles LED lighting conversions across the Gold Coast for homes and businesses that want lower running costs, better light, and an end to the constant ladder trips.

We’re licensed, local, and we’ll give you a straight answer about what your property actually needs.

Why Switch to LED Lighting

A 50W halogen uses around five times the power of an equivalent LED, and halogens last roughly 2,000 hours. Quality LED bulbs run 25,000 to 50,000 hours, which is 15 to 25 years of normal use. The savings show up on your first power bill after the upgrade.

What We Convert

Most LED Lighting Installation work falls into a few common categories:

Halogen to LED downlight upgrades.

The most common job. We remove the old fittings, transformers, and any dodgy wiring, then fit new LED downlights sized to each room.

Outdoor and security illumination

Floodlights, sensor lights, garden paths, and pool-area illumination. We use IP-rated fittings suitable for the Gold Coast’s coastal conditions, because cheap outdoor gear rusts out fast around here.

What You'll Save

A typical Gold Coast home with 25 halogen downlights running five hours a day uses around 2,280 kWh annually. Replace those halogens with 9W LED bulbs, and that drops to around 410 kWh. The savings work out to a few hundred dollars off your power bill every year, before you factor in the replacement bulbs you’re no longer buying.

We’ll provide a written quote with realistic figures based on your property’s needs before any work starts.

Why Use a Licensed Electrical Expert

It’s tempting to think that swapping a downlight is a DIY job. It isn’t. Halogens typically run on 12V through a transformer while modern LEDs are 240V direct, so the conversion involves wiring changes, not a globe swap. Get it wrong, and you’ve got a fire risk in your ceiling cavity.

There’s also the question of compatible dimmers (most old dimmers cause LED flicker or buzzing), correct driver selection, and insulation clearances. In Queensland, fixed electrical work has to be done by a licensed electrician under the Electrical Safety Act 2002.

Our expert team brings every Emos Electrical job up to current standards and provides a Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion. That matters for insurance and for selling the property later.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do LED bulbs actually last?

Quality LED bulbs are rated 25,000 to 50,000 hours, which is roughly 15 to 25 years of typical use. Cheaper LEDs often fail much earlier because of poor driver components. We only fit LED lighting from manufacturers with a solid warranty record.

Sometimes, but often not. Older dimmers were designed for halogen loads and frequently cause LEDs to flicker or hum. As part of the upgrade, we’ll check your dimmers and let you know which need replacing with LED-compatible models.

In most cases, no. We size new LED downlights to fit existing cutouts wherever possible. If your old halogens used unusual cutouts, we’ll discuss your options, including trim rings that cover larger holes without patching.

A standard residential conversion (20 to 30 fittings) takes most of a day with a two-person crew. Bigger jobs with strip lighting, outdoor work, or commercial fit-outs are quoted case-by-case based on your needs and the specifics of your property.

Yes. We can plan a full lighting layout for new builds or renovations, including downlight placement, accent lighting, and outdoor schemes designed around your specific needs.
