It’s tempting to think that swapping a downlight is a DIY job. It isn’t. Halogens typically run on 12V through a transformer while modern LEDs are 240V direct, so the conversion involves wiring changes, not a globe swap. Get it wrong, and you’ve got a fire risk in your ceiling cavity.
There’s also the question of compatible dimmers (most old dimmers cause LED flicker or buzzing), correct driver selection, and insulation clearances. In Queensland, fixed electrical work has to be done by a licensed electrician under the Electrical Safety Act 2002.

Can I keep my existing dimmer switches?

Will I need to patch my ceiling?
In most cases, no. We size new LED downlights to fit existing cutouts wherever possible. If your old halogens used unusual cutouts, we’ll discuss your options, including trim rings that cover larger holes without patching.
How long does an LED conversion take?
A standard residential conversion (20 to 30 fittings) takes most of a day with a two-person crew. Bigger jobs with strip lighting, outdoor work, or commercial fit-outs are quoted case-by-case based on your needs and the specifics of your property.
