When it is time to add more power points
Power boards trailing across the floor. Double adaptors stacked two deep. The same wall socket running the kettle, the toaster and a phone charger off one tired outlet. If that sounds like your kitchen or home office, you have outgrown your power points, and the fix is simpler than most people expect.
Overloaded outlets are not just annoying. They put heat through wiring that was never meant to carry it, which is a real fire risk in older Gold Coast homes. Adding a couple of well-placed outlets clears the clutter and takes the load off circuits that are working too hard. It is one of the smallest electrical jobs we do, and one of the most useful.
How we install power points in your Gold Coast home
Where the outlet goes decides how the job runs. An external cavity wall is the easiest and cheapest. We drill into the brick inner cavity, pull the cable up to the roof space, and join it to your existing power circuit. The point sits recessed in the wall with no mounting block poking out, so the finish looks like it was always there.
Internal single (non-cavity) walls take more work and a bit more material, so they cost a little more. For those, you have two options.
Running the cable inside the wall
The cable runs hidden inside the wall, and the outlet sits flush, the same clean look as an external wall. Plastering and painting are not included in the install price, so this one suits a room you are about to paint anyway.
Surface-mounted ducting
Not as tidy, but no plastering or painting needed. White square ducting encloses the cable, and a small mounting block holds the outlet. A smart trick here is to position the point on the other side of a wall where the ducting can hide, like inside a wardrobe. It keeps the visible side looking neat.
What we install
We have a wide range of outlets to suit how you actually use a room, from a single socket in a hallway to USB points beside the bed.
- Single and double outlets for living rooms, bedrooms and home offices
- USB and USB-C outlets so phones and tablets charge without a plug pack
- Weatherproof outdoor points for patios, alfresco areas, sheds and pool pumpsK˙∆
- Power point replacements where sockets are cracked, loose, discoloured or only working on one side
- Dedicated outlets for appliances like air conditioners, ovens and workshop gear
Not sure which outlet suits the spot? Tell us what you are plugging in and where, and we will recommend the right point for the job.
How much does power point installation cost on the Gold Coast?
Most standard power point installations in Australia land between $150 and $400 per outlet, depending on the wall type, how far the cabling has to run, and the kind of outlet you choose. A simple point near existing wiring sits at the lower end. Outdoor, USB or dedicated outlets cost more because of the extra parts and labour.
Rather than guess, we give upfront prices on the standard jobs we do, so you know exactly what your new power point will cost before we pick up a drill. If your switchboard needs attention to take the extra load, we will tell you up front, never as a surprise at the end.

FAQ
We’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions to address common inquiries. If you need more information or have additional questions about our services, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our team is ready to assist you!
How long does it take to install a power point?
Most standard power points take around 30 to 60 minutes per outlet, depending on the wall type and how easy the cabling is to run. An external cavity wall near existing wiring is quick. Internal walls and outdoor points take a little longer. If you are adding several outlets in one visit, we work through them in the one appointment.
Can I install a power point myself?
No. In Queensland, and across Australia, only a licensed electrician can legally install or move a power point. It is not a DIY job. Beyond the legal side, getting a licensed electrician means the work is safe, compliant with Australian Standards, and covered by a Safety Certificate, which also protects your home insurance.
Can you install outdoor or weatherproof power points?
Yes. We fit weatherproof outlets for patios, alfresco areas, sheds, garages and pool equipment. Outdoor points use sealed, rated covers to keep moisture out and meet the standards for external use. Tell us where you want it and what it needs to run, and we will sort the right outlet for the spot.
Will my switchboard need an upgrade to add more outlets?
Sometimes. Older switchboards may not safely support extra outlets, especially if you are adding high-draw appliances. We check this as part of the job, and our free switchboard and safety switch check comes with every electrical service. If an upgrade is needed, we explain why and give you the price before any work goes ahead.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Power point quotes are free and with no obligation. We also give upfront pricing on the standard jobs we do, so you can plan your budget with confidence. Call Michael on 0424 473 630 or request a quote online and we will sort it out for you.
